He was listed as one of the eighteen demons who possessed Sister Jeanne des Anges, in Loudun, France, in 1634. Balaam was once ensnared, in Yamsay, Oregon, by a mortal named Eustace Coupland, who made a deal with the demon.

For his freedom, Balaam showed him where the wealth of the earth lies in Yansei. Also, Eustas once a year provided the devil with a fresh soul to feed in honor of the devil.

Eustas was supposed to release the devil until the end of his days, but the man killed him before completing his work. Therefore, Balaam was forced to remain imprisoned, but Balaam had sufficient power to manipulate Eustas’ daughter and cause the further sacrifice to him after her death. He intended to absorb enough soul to free himself from his prison.

Then Balam began to hear whispers from hell, the death of the devil, and the uprising of imprisoned souls. Realizing that many lords of hell had fled to regain power through the Qliphoth tree, Balaam began accelerating his pace for freedom so that he could walk the Earth again. He forced the slaves to gather more children for him to devour.

Eventually, his activities caught the attention of Ashley Strode of the B.P.R.D. She found him in a chamber under the Coupland’s estate. Due to the cage, he was in, he had no choice but to reveal the truth to her. He tried to claim her as his vessel so he may escape, however, Ashley used her spiritual sword and slew him ending his threat to the world at the moment
